Margret Atladottir disease – did she lose her hair due to alopecia?

The truth was that Margret suffered from the autoimmune disease alopecia in 2012. The disease is harmless but manifests itself in such a way that you lose all your hair. Where you lose your hair has to do with what “type” of the disease you have.

– It’s a chronic disease, so it’s not like you can take any medicine for it. But you simply have to hope for the best and see, she said on the radio.

But the time in the beginning was tough. And still is. On Instagram, she wrote a message that read:

“It doesn’t hurt, isn’t contagious, doesn’t affect health at all. But what happens can be explained roughly like this: One’s hair follicles become allergic to hairs. They reject them. I have of course tried to “cure” my illness even though it is chronic and incurable Anyone who knows me knows that I have of course tried this.

I have undergone treatments, a painful one at that. I have tried everything. As I said, it took me three years to “accept” the situation. And there I am today. I am no longer ashamed, which I have done. I don’t grieve anymore, which I really did. So I’ve cried so crazy a lot, had friends rush to my house in the middle of the night to comfort and hug and pat and made me laugh about it all. Parents and siblings who have been completely helpless and wished they could just listen to something. Change place. Anything.

This is to other alopecia sufferers: You are NOT alone. Find each other. No one else can understand, that’s just the way it is. Talk to each other, knead, grieve and finally that lovely thing comes: Acceptance. It might take years, but what the hell, it’s coming.”

She concluded: You can meet someone, even fall in love with someone who falls in love with you and who absolutely gives a shit about not having hair on your head. You can damn well do EVERYTHING you want despite alopecia.
I will do it anyway.

When Margret guested on Daniel Redgert’s podcast she told me that she has a variant where she loses the hair on her eyebrows and head but not hair like nose hair and eyelashes.

Her way of talking about the disease has been praised by both radio listeners, Instagram followers and loved ones.
