There was no successful comeback for Kristine Stavå’s Skistad this weekend.
She was washed out in the quarter-finals of Saturday’s sprint and locked herself in a cabin before leaving Lillehammer in a car.
– It is not professional. She must be able to swallow disappointment, face the media and tell them what went wrong, says Viaplay expert Johan Olsson.
It was the Norwegian sprint queen Kristine Stavås Skistads25, first appearance this year as she missed the domestic opener in Beitostölen as well as the World Cup opener in Finland’s Ruka last weekend due to recovering from stomach surgery.
Kristine Stavå’s Skistad was washed
That Stavås Skistad even competed in Lillehammer was a shock to many. Most people, including herself and her team, thought it would be much longer before the comeback would come.
– I don’t want to go into what happened so much. But an operation was needed. And I got better after that. I have had close contact with the national team doctor. None of us thought I would be able to compete before Christmas, she said at a press conference on Thursday.
– I have to admit that it has been very tough. But I feel like I got through it and I’m happy about it. So I feel like you appreciate things a lot more after experiencing tough things. I feel very grateful to be here today.

But the return to the big stage was not what Kristine Stavå’s Skistad had dreamed of. She was indeed fourth fastest in the sprint prologue, but immediately in the quarter-finals she went out. She came third in her heat behind Jonna Sundling and Victoria Carl and had to rely on the fact that time would be enough anyway. It didn’t. Especially not considering that she was also washed for obstruction.
Stavås Skistad’s behavior is seen
The Norwegian got so angry that she went straight past the mixed zone and locked herself in a cabin a little way beyond the competition area. After a short time, she left Lillehammer in a car with her coach Created by Sofienlund.
– She is irritated. It is disappointing to go out in the quarter-finals. It is nothing more than that. She wants to do as well as possible but gets a bad quarterfinal. Just go home and train, said the coach and continued:
– Bottles should be thrown against the wall when you are disappointed. It wasn’t done now but it would have been okay.

One who, however, does not buy Stavås Skistad’s frustration and behavior is Swedish Johan Olsson. The Olympic hero is now an expert at Viaplay. He thinks she acted childish.
– It is not professional. She has to be able to swallow disappointment, face the media and tell them what went wrong. Then she may be disappointed afterwards. It is a clear sign that she is frustrated and disappointed, he says.
