The neighbors compete for the most Christmas lights: “Has escalated”

When the neighbor Tommy passed away, the neighbors took the lighting tradition on: “The street must be lit up”

On a small cul-de-sac in Väse, a Christmas lighting competition is taking place between two neighbors.
It is about Håkan at Tvärgatan 17 and Henrik at Tvärgatan 12.
– We lie and sniff at 6,000 lamps each, says Håkan in Efter fem.

The neighbors’ competition about who decorates their house the most for Christmas actually started with a completely different neighbor with a great love for Christmas lights, which Värmland’s Folkblad was the first to report on. The neighbor Tommy had a tradition of maximizing the lighting, and when he passed away Håkan and Henrik wanted to carry on the tradition.

– Tommy is famous here in Väse, then he passed away and then the street had to be lit anyway. Håkan had already started with lots of lighting, then I moved into the street. I didn’t want to be worse than him, so it escalated a bit, says Henrik.

Already grinding new plans

A week ago they turned on the Christmas lights together with some mulled wine and sausage grilling. The street has now become popular to visit among the residents. Many people like to take a detour to see all the Christmas lights.

– The neighbors think it’s funny and have hung out on the train for a bit, it starts to shine more and more on the street, says Håkan.

Both neighbors spend a lot of time decorating for Christmas, most recently Henrik was buying new lights. And Håkan has already started making plans for next year.

– We have a 15 meter high oak at the back which is completely untouched, without lights. You can do a lot of fun with it!
