You’ve probably missed 3 MMORPGs in 2024, but it’s worth getting started now

In 2024, many MMORPGs received an update. Three formerly popular online role-playing games were not in the spotlight, but they still delivered. MeinMMO shows you where it’s really worth getting started.

While 2024 was not littered with MMORPG releases, Throne and Liberty was able to delight many players, especially in the second half of the year. Tarisland, which many players still consider a WoW clone to this day, also experienced a brief period of hype.

Otherwise, for many players, 2024 would probably consist of updates for their favorite MMORPG. In Final Fantasy Or take Janthir Wilds for Guild Wars 2, Gold Road for ESO and “Land of the Morning Light: Seoul” for Black Desert.

Three other MMORPGs flew under the radar in 2024, although it is now really worth getting started there. We introduce them to you.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

What kind of game is this? Star Wars: The Old Republic is a theme park MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe. Right from the start you have to decide whether you want to play on the good side, with the Jedi, or on the evil side of the Sith.

The MMORPG shines above all with its fully voiced story, which lets you choose from at least three different answers in dialogues. Your decisions in the story also change the outcome slightly. Each of the 8 character classes has its own main story and a continuing plot thread that follows it in the expansions.

In multiplayer, the MMORPG offers 12 raids – with 8 or 16 players and three levels of difficulty – also 33 flashpoints for 4 players as well as short dungeons (called uprisings) and an open world with countless locations and objects.

In PvP, SW:TOR primarily offers interesting battlefields, with one or two traps into which you can lead your opponents. There is also an arena mode for “3 vs. 3” matches and a ranked mode.

The theme park MMORPG offers content for every type of player and will also be worthwhile in 2025 for players who have nothing else to do with Star Wars. For example, there is a housing system and various professions with which you can earn money.

Why is it worth getting started now? Star Wars: The Old Republic was sold to Broadsword Online Games in 2023. The new development studio, in which some of the game’s old developers also work, provides a breath of fresh air.

The biggest change that Broadsword has made so far is to the game’s graphics, which will receive a facelift in 2024. New light and shadow effects, prettier objects and, most recently, many improved and new textures enhance the game.

The developers have also done a lot on the technical side of the game. For example, the game’s servers have moved to the cloud. Anyone who has never tried SW:TOR will find tons of content, but even players who haven’t been away for that long can look forward to story expansions and new PvE content.

In addition to the technical and graphical updates, there are now also the “Date Night” missions with which you can take your interpersonal relationships to the next level. There are also more and more cosmetic items from Disney series and films in the game.

Star Wars: The Old Republic looks better than ever in 2024 and is adding more content to the large theme park with every update. However, since the updates were spread out over the course of the year, the improvements from the new developers were probably lost on many people.
