This is an unprecedented meeting since the last presidential election inDRCin December 2023. This Saturday, December 7, Moses Katumbi and Martin Fayulu, who had distanced themselves from each other in recent months due to their deep differences on the conduct to be taken in the face of the second mandate of Felix Tshisekedimet in Genval, in Belgiuma place far from having been chosen by chance.
Genval indeed represents a strong symbol for the Congolese opposition since it is here that in 2016, it met to form its anti-Joseph Kabila “Rally”, the president at the time, in order to demand his departure. “ As we did against Kabila, we will do it against Tshisekedi », confided Martin Fayulu to RFI.
However, according to a source present on site, it took some time to dissipate the palpable tension between the two opponents. Their discussions nevertheless ended up allowing them to turn the page on their dissensions. During their discussions, both agreed to draft a common action plan to counter any proposed change to the Constitution.
Martin Fayulu increases contacts
If, in the camp of Moïse Katumbi, we are delighted with this new dynamic, Hervé Diakiese, the spokesperson for the Ensemble pour la République party, nevertheless wishes to clarify that this initiative in no way represents a platform for conquest of power. It is, according to him, only a union of forces to defend constitutional principles.
In this perspective, Martin Fayulu is increasing his contacts. Before Moïse Katumbi, he also met another opponent in France, the former presidential candidate Delly Sesanga, also hostile to any modification of the Constitution. Other exchanges are to come, as well as the disclosure of a joint action plan in the coming days, according to Martin Fayulu.
