When seller Sandra shows up at Bares for Rares on April 30, 2020, she has no idea that she is for one of the most exciting moments in the show would care. She has a magnificent diamond ring in tow, about which not much is known: “I don’t know how old it is. It’s an heirloom from my mother.” Since then, the magnificent ring has lain unworn in the basement.
Horst Lichter immediately notices the gigantic diamond. With so much sparkling, the moderator really gets into raptures: “That’s a powerful stone.”
Expert Heide Rezepa-Zabel is also enthusiastic. The bright yellow color of the diamond is said to be extremely rare, and the magnificent ring is already 100 years old. The antique diamond is so valuable that prices of up to 13,000 euros per carat are possible. The ring has an incredible 2.6 carats, That’s why the estimated price is absolutely gigantic: “32,000 to 34,000 euros.”
The saleswoman looks shocked and doesn’t know what is happening to her. When tears well up in her eyes, Horst Lichter appears warm: he hugs the overjoyed saleswoman tightly.
Surprise in the dealer’s room: The saleswoman won’t let herself be ripped off
With Bares for Rares, it has often happened that the sellers ended up getting paid very cheaply despite a fantastically high estimate. Sometimes it’s not that easy to demonstrate tough negotiating skills in front of the cameras.
In this case too, it is noticeable that the experienced dealers want to drive down the price of the rarity. Jewelry expert Susanne Steiger is extremely interested, but she expresses doubts as to whether the color of the stone is really real. That’s why she’s not prepared to pay more than 18,000 euros for the heirloom.
