Nuggets advertising before bedtime is banned in the UK

Energy drinks, hamburgers, soft drinks and chicken nuggets. These are examples of things that there will be less of in the box in the future.

From October 2025, advertising for what is classed as ‘less healthy food’ will only be allowed after 9pm in the UK, reports Barron.

The British government is introducing the ban as a measure to combat childhood obesity. According to the British health authority NHS, obesity is increasing among British children. One in ten four-year-olds is considered obese.

“Obesity is robbing our children of the best possible start in life, giving them a lifetime of health problems and costing the NHS billions,” said Health Minister Wes Streeting.

What is judged to be “less healthy food” is determined based on a points system where the sugar, salt and fat content of products is analysed.

With the new measures, the government estimates that they should be able to prevent around 20,000 cases of childhood obesity each year.
