(Finance) – Motorways for Italy And State Police they focus on safety and on strategies aimed at guaranteeing freedom of movement and improved protection from advanced and integrated technologies. Aspi implements its strategy, envisaged by the Corporate Transformation Plan aimed at producing economic and social value by investing in cutting-edge infrastructure.

Presented today by the Director of the Central Directorate of Specialties of the State Police Prefect Renato Courteous and by the CEO of Autostrade per l’Italia, Roberto Tomasithe platform Navigarddeveloped by Movyon center of the Group’s technological innovation, offers solutions dedicated to road safety that collect, process and make data available for advanced monitoring of road behavior and events, in compliance with privacy legislation.

Thanks to a complex system of algorithmsthe platform manages and integrates data from the most advanced technologies for safety road: from the control of overtaking by heavy vehicles to the monitoring of compliance with the permitted mass limits, from the assessment of transit speed, to the control of vehicles going against traffic. This innovation is the result of the commitment of Autostrade per l’Italia which contributes to the work of the State Police to guarantee greater safety on our roads, and to discourage incorrect behaviour, allowing targeted and increasingly timely interventions. THE’objective is to develop and combine technological solutions and raise user awareness to create integrated management of the many variables that interact with each other in the context of motorway traffic.

THE main systems technological of the platform are made up of radar, cameras, peripheral servers and a central system: a combination of technologies capable of detecting the average speed of the vehicle, reporting it, for appropriate checks, in the event of exceeding the limits, in the event of circulation on non-compliant lanes permitted and in the event of verification of compliance with the strict right-of-way obligation by heavy vehicles. This is an effective tool for combating the phenomenon of accidents due to a dangerous driving style that pays little attention to protecting traffic safety. Another fundamental component of the platform is dedicated to tunnel safety: through latest generation sensors and cameras, combined with an Artificial Intelligence algorithm, it will be possible by 2026 to detect the presence of wrong-way vehicles and other types of obstacles in tunnels longer than 500 meters.

A technology will also be introduced that will allow, through the use of digital optical sensors and camerasto dynamically verify compliance with the permitted mass of vehicles in transit, reporting any deviations to the Traffic Police for appropriate checks. Furthermore, it will be possible to monitor the route of vehicles carrying dangerous goods, reporting their transit along motorway sections that are not permitted to them. There coverage of the entire network will arrive by 2027. Finally, the technology that uses DSRC antennas, peripheral servers and a central system to systematically collect tachograph data on heavy vehicles in transit will indicate any irregularities. Measures that will give further protection to workers who respect the rules. Another innovation present in the new platform is the tool to assist the State Police in identifying repeated evasion of the toll.

The Central Director of Specialties Prefect Renato Courteous highlights: “The Navigard technological platform is a project that once again demonstrates how the virtuous synergy between Autostrade per l’Italia and the State Police has made it possible to take a further step forward towards an objective that unites all the actors involved in the protection of mobility: ensuring road safety through technological innovation”.

“The safety of workers and travelers is an integral part of our Group’s strategy, a cornerstone of every other action envisaged in Aspi’s industrial plan” states the CEO of Autostrade per l’Italia Roberto Tomasi. “In this daily challenge, technology is a precious ally and Navigard represents a unique innovation in the field of road safety, which integrates and systematizes the cutting-edge solutions developed by our Group. We are proud to make these tools available to the State Police, strengthening a decades-long collaboration which every day translates into concrete actions to support travellers. We continue our commitment towards an increasingly safe and sustainable future of mobility.”

The State Police and the Aspi Group have been promoting, for many years, initiatives aimed atroad education and to awareness of motorists to tackle the phenomenon of road accidents, involving young people and adults with the aim of transforming the vision of road safety from an obligation to a conscious choice. These initiatives they are added to the others already created in collaboration with the State Police, including the making available of 153 routes (1,600 km) covered by the SICVE system (46 new routes 2024-25); over 3,500 checks on heavy vehicles (2021-22 period); 96.4% 2023 coverage rate by Traffic Police patrols, 4 Safety Points in Service Areas and Safety communication campaigns.

With the Plan Mercury, Smart Sustainable Mobilitythe Autostrade per l’Italia group is working on the construction of a large unitary and coordinated hub for technological innovation, so as to ensure safer infrastructures and participate as protagonists in the revolution that decarbonisation, digitalisation and new transport services are bringing to all mobility systems.
