Heating: a new generation of invisible and economical radiators

Heating a new generation of invisible and economical radiators

Recessed, placed behind a piece of furniture, the baseboard heaters discreetly diffuse a gentle homogeneous heat in the rooms. Developed by Ecomatic, this electric or hot water heating device eliminates the cold wall effect of the walls and reduces the energy bill.

In Brest, the university is heated by a water reserve… but only at the end of the weekend. This thermal storage installation, unique in France, makes it possible to smooth the supply of energy on a district scale.

With the decline in temperatures, There is nothing more annoying than being cold at home especially when the rooms are heated. An unpleasant feeling due to an absence (or a bad one) exterior wall insulation. Associated withinertia of certain materials construction and frequent in older buildings, this defect creates a cold wall effect which partly diffuses the outside temperature inside. Thus, when the latter display a temperature of 17 ° C, the feeling in the room is not 20 ° C but 18.5 ° C … Under these conditions, to feel the desired 20 ° C, it is necessary increase the temperature of radiators of 3 ° C. Given the energy cost increases, this considerably increases the electricity bill or gas.

Using walls to distribute heat

In order to eliminate this cold wall effect, Ecomatic was inspired by a device widely used in Canada : baseboard heaters. Compared to conventional radiators, or to a heating through the floor, this process heats the walls of a room up to 26 ° C, over a height of 1.50 m. The latter acting as radiant panels, they diffuse the heat homogeneously. Thus, at equal temperature, this principle makes it possible to reduce the energy bill from 10 to 20% (manufacturer data). Another advantage, like heated floors, the walls are completely clear, making it easier to fit out the rooms.

Baseboard heaters compatible with all energies

To cover all needs, baseboard heaters are available in three energies: electric, hot water or mixed. In aluminum, they are compatible with all materials (floor and wall) and available in eight colors. For full integration, the manufacturer offers, as an option, a personalized powder coating.

Electric baseboard heaters

With a resistance 220 W, electric baseboard heaters are called “low temperature”. For greater comfort and electricity savings, the latter incorporate a detector (probe) which adapts the power of the resistance in real time, piece by piece.

Hot water baseboard heaters

Compatible with the different production methods (heat pump, gas boiler or drink, solar panels), hot water baseboard heaters have a low volume of water. A design that provides this heating method with optimum performance for a power of between 80 and 270 W / m. Finally, to cover the entire periphery of a room, the baseboards are associated with heated threshold bars.

Dual energy baseboard heaters

Enjoying the best of both energies is what this version offers. From the first frost, this baseboard heater uses electricity to heat just what is needed. As soon as the boiler or heat pump starts up, it automatically switches to hot water mode.

New construction, or as a replacement for an old heating system, whatever the version, baseboard heaters can be installed in any room of the house by an experienced handyman. Used as a main or auxiliary heater, this device is more expensive to purchase than a simple radiator. On the other hand, it diffuses a pleasant heat without drying out theair while removing the condensation present in the walls.

What you must remember

  • Insulation is an essential prerequisite to enjoy excellent thermal comfort in the house.
  • The baseboard heaters are controlled by room using a control device.
  • Raising the temperature by 1 ° C represents a 7% increase on the energy bill.
