However, the Rangers have now agreed on a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, several well-known NHL reporters write in X, such as Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston.
The Rangers will receive a Finnish defender from Anaheim Urho Vaakanainen as well as the booking round of the fourth round.
Trouba, who earned a tough, if questionable, reputation in the NHL with his tough tackles, has been playing for the Rangers since 2019, and was the captain in the last three seasons. Previously, he represented the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL.
Defender Urho Vaakanainen, 25, from Joensuu, made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins in the 2018–19 season.
From the Boston organization, Vaakanainen moved to Anaheim in the middle of the 2021–22 season.
Vaakanainen has not been able to establish his role in the Ducks. This season, he has played five NHL games with an output of 0+1.
Trouba is in the last season of his $56 million, seven-year contract.
Vaakanainen signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract in the summer.
Anaheim is third last in the Western Conference, with ten wins out of 24 games. The Rangers are eighth in the Eastern Conference, but have lost six of their last seven games.
