Niklas Moisander, who captained the national team and club level, most recently played for Swedish Malmö FF.
Former captain of the Finnish national football team Niklas Moisander end his professional career. Moisander, 39, represented Finland in a total of 62 men’s A national matches. Most recently, Moisander represented the Swedish Malmö FF.
Moisander was chosen as Footballer of the Year in 2012 and 2013. The defender was winning three championships with his club teams in both Holland and Sweden. In Holland, he played almost 200 league matches and won two Super Cups in addition to three championships. At the national team level, Moisander represented Finland until 2017.
The Finn moved to the western neighbor’s big club Malmö in June 2021 and was on the verge of winning three Swedish championships. In recent years, Moisander and Malmö met in the group stage of both the Champions League and the Europa League. In the season that ended, Moisander suffered from injuries and ended up playing in only two Allsvenskan matches.
– Of course, this was not the way I would have wanted to end my career. I’ve always fought my way back from injuries and it was disappointing not to be able to finish my career on the pitch. Not everything in life goes the way you want. However, I am really grateful for my long career. I’m proud of the fact that I never gave up. I played football until the very end. I still love the sport as much as I did when I was a little boy, Moisander says in Pallloiito’s press release.
