Linn Gestblom misses the entire season due to a shoulder injury.
When the Swedish national women’s biathlon team won Saturday’s relay, they paid tribute to their friend with a special detail in the team photo.
– We miss and think of her and hope she will return soon, says Anna Magnusson to Radiosporten.
Last Wednesday, November 27, the Swedish Biathlon Federation came up with a very sad message. Linn Gestblomearlier Personwill not be able to compete for the entire season. Instead, rehab training awaits due to a shoulder that is in trouble and has been operated on several times.
There will be no competition for Linn Gestblom
The 30-year-old is therefore forced to sit out the entire competition season and has now instead started to focus on the 2025 Olympics, a goal that is 15 months ahead.
“My rehabilitation is progressing steadily, but with two major operations in a short space of time, the body needs time to fully recover. In order for me to catch up with training and be completely ready, I have decided together with the medical team that I will not focus on competition this season”, writes Linn in a press release.

Gestblom scored a great WC last year, when in addition to a relay bronze she also picked up an individual silver and a bronze. Now, unfortunately, she does not get the opportunity to follow up the success.
“About half a year ago, Linn had a shoulder operation that first requires healing and then building up in order to be able to perform at his maximum with a very heavy load. It is something completely different from coming back to a regular job,” writes the national team doctor Magnus Oscarsson in the press release.

When the Swedish women’s national team took home first place in Saturday’s relay in Kontiolax, where the biathletes’ premiere week took place, there were of course a lot of happy faces. When they were to immortalize the occasion afterwards by photographing the winning group, Linn Gestblom was also present in a way. She wasn’t in the picture physically, though Anna Magnusson and the sisters Elvira and Hanna Öberg held up her number plate with name on it.

Even older sister Öberg had some nice words to say about her friend after the finish.
– Linn is a big, big part of this team and we really feel for her now that she can’t be with us. We cheer her on and hope she comes back stronger, says Hanna Öberg.
