The sports festival has nominated Sweden’s best athlete.
But not a single cross-country skier is nominated for the gala.
It arouses enormous anger in the Norwegian(!) Petter Northug.
It was Armand Duplantis who received the coveted Bragdguldet for 2024. The Sports Gala has also released all nominees for other awards as well as the candidates for the Jerring Prize, which has caused strong reactions.
The skiers are nobbed
Because strangely enough, there is not a single cross-country skier among all the nominees. Skiing, which is usually described as the most popular sport in Sweden, is thus completely overlooked.

Despite the fact that several Swedish skiers reaped great success last season. Instead, it is athletes from the Summer Olympics in Paris who dominate the prize categories.
– Mmm, it was very dry there when it comes to winter sports, says the head of the national skiing team Anders Byström to Expressen.
– The women’s team broke a record with over 40 podium places in the World Cup. And we sent in requests for them to be nominated.
Northug’s giant fury
But despite that, the women’s national cross-country team was not nominated for the “Team of the Year” category at the Sports Gala. This has now caused a lot of anger in Norway with the legend Peter Northug.
Especially when it comes to the “Newcomer of the Year” award and the super talent Alvar Myhlback not even nominated. Despite the fact that the 18-year-old won double JVM gold and came third at the Vasaloppet.
– Considering the season Alvar had, he absolutely should have been on the list of nominees, says the Norwegian ski profile to the evening newspaper.
– It is completely incomprehensible. There must be something wrong? I just say “Hello, Alvar!”.

But national team manager Anders Byström is more understanding of that category when the competition is the Olympic bronze medalist Tara Babulfaththe track and field athlete Vanessa Kamgathe foosball player Lucas Bergvall and the cyclist Jakob Söderqvist.
– He faces pretty decent opposition. Alvar probably should have been more at senior level in the World Cup and delivered there, says Byström in the interview.
