Sports Short week 49 De Groot says goodbye to coach

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS Wheelchair tennis player Diede de Groot and her coach Amanda Hopmans separate after ten years. The 23-time Grand Slam champion and number 1 in the world from Utrecht announced this on social media. “After ten wonderful years, the collaboration between my coach Amanda and me comes to an end,” De Groot wrote on her Instagram account. “Together we have made an incredible journey. A journey full of growth, perseverance and unforgettable highlights.” As a pupil of Hopmans, De Groot won her first Grand Slam title in 2017 at Wimbledon, after which 22 more victories at Grand Slam tournaments would follow. She won two gold medals at the Tokyo Summer Paralympics, and last summer she won two Paralympic silver medals in Paris. She is currently recovering from hip surgery. (Wednesday December 4)
