Unique and from another time this Christmas market is located

It is particularly popular and every year it attracts thousands of visitors.

When we imagine a Christmas market, we immediately think of the festive decorations, the wooden chalets, the culinary specialties, the smell of good mulled wine and gingerbread, sometimes the choirs, and this warm and family atmosphere. It’s ultimately a fairly traditional image. But did you know that there are also completely original Christmas markets? This is the case of this one, located in the heart of Alsace. And no, it is neither Strasbourg, nor Colmar or Kaysersberg. It is located in a village, among the most visited in the north-east of France, which also appears on the list of the most beautiful in France.

What makes it special and above all its charm is that it highlights the medieval world. For what ? Because the village which hosts it is the capital of the minstrels of Alsace, and it enjoys a historic medieval heritage. It’s simple, if you visit it, you will immediately be transported to the Middle Ages thanks to the numerous period costumes parading, the medieval music and the presence of the wise men and their camels. Between breathtaking shows by jugglers, fire eaters and troubadours, gourmet tastings like wild boar on a spit… The experience is very exotic and this market amazes young and old!

“One year, I went there with my 10-year-old granddaughter and my 4-year-old grandson and they were amazed. So yes, there are a few people since it only takes place over two weekends, but if you go early and book a restaurant well in advance, you can take full advantage of it.” Jean told us. In fact, the Ribeauvillé Christmas market is not held throughout the month of December. This year it will take place on December 7-8 and 14-15, 2024.

If this has made you want to go there, know that everything is done to manage the influx of visitors. A shuttle service is available. There are also relay car parks before entering the village which certainly require a fee (8 euros per vehicle), but at least you are sure to find a place and be able to easily get to the Christmas market.
