The Brödernas hamburger chain was a success when they opened at the beginning of 2018.
The chain was founded by the brothers Joakim Wiklander and Jonas Wiklander and quickly expanded across the country. But recently, the chain has had a tougher time and suffered a loss of millions.
The hamburger chain quickly became popular and only in the year 2021 they opened 50 new restaurants according to The real estate world.

The brothers closed twelve restaurants
But since then, things have been much trickier for the chain. News24 has previously written about the Brothers’ financial difficulties. In 2022, Brödernas’ parent company Brödernas TopCo AB made a loss of a whopping SEK 168,879,000.
Due to the tough economic situation, the brothers’ twelve restaurants closed last year.

The brothers applied for reconstruction
In October this year, the chain applied for reconstruction. Brödernas currently has around 55 restaurants across the country.
“The goal of us applying for reconstruction today is to save as many restaurants as possible – and thus save as many jobs as possible,” said Bröderna’s CEO Richard Forsshell to TT.

Now Brödernas will close additional restaurants
But now further Brödernas restaurants will close.
“As a result of the reconstruction process and a careful analysis, a number of restaurants will now unfortunately close. This is a necessary but of course a very difficult decision to secure the Brothers’ long-term survival and future vitality,” writes the Brothers’ CEO Richard Forsshéll in an email to Aftonbladet.
According to the CEO, the debts after the pandemic years and the war in Ukraine affected both operating, raw material and rental costs, which ultimately became too much.

“Will be liquidated through bankruptcy”
The CEO does not want to say exactly how many restaurants will close this time, but according to Aftonbladet it will be around fifteen.
“The restaurants that are closed will be liquidated through a bankruptcy in the respective company, while the other approximately 55 restaurant companies will continue their operations around Sweden just as before,” writes Forsshéll to The evening paper.
