In the dock, Filippo Turetta, dressed in gray pants and a blue sweatshirt, listened to the verdict read by the president of the panel of judges, Stefano Manduzio, without ever raising his head.
A few meters from him, Gino Cecchetin, Giulia’s father, showed himself, as usual, extremely dignified in his infinite pain. Filippo Turetta was therefore sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping, murder and concealment of the body of Giulia Cecchettin in November 2023.
The judges of the Assize Court of Venice recognized premeditation. But they excluded cruelty and harassment from aggravating circumstances. The student’s body was lacerated with 75 stab wounds and she had been subjected to pressure for months, after deciding to break off the romantic relationship with the young man.
