Late shall the sinner awake. Joking aside, it took until May 13, 2018 before Prince Carl Philip and the princess Sophia joined Instagram and launched their joint account on the platform.
“Today Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia start their official Instagram account @prinsparet. Welcome to follow the account!”, the royal house wrote on its official Instagram account.
That the princess and the prince were somewhat late to the “Instagram ball” was rewritten in The evening paper of the media profile Frans “TramsFrans” Strandberg.
“Prince Carl-Philip and Princess Sofia have got Instagram! Think it would only take 6-7 years before the royal house realized that this thing with Instagram is an effective way to reach the public. Princess Madeleine went out strong earlier this year with Anna Book collages and spam pictures of the kids, and now the prince couple don’t want to be worse,” he wrote at the time.

He also questioned the fact that the prince and princess shared the account, likening it to elderly people sharing a Facebook account.
Since then, the prince couple’s Instagram account has grown exponentially. The couple has almost 300,000 followers, and it is updated several times a week with insights into their lives. Pictures from official missions are interspersed with family photos and congratulatory greetings to the children.
The prince couple’s account only follows 10 other accounts – including the princess Madeleinethe royal family’s official account, the hospital Sophiahemmet and several different organizations such as Nej till nethat and Project Playground.

The atmosphere on the internet and in social media is something that Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip are passionate about. They want to create a safe environment in social media, and make it standard to stand up for those who are subjected to digital persecution.
In a new interview with Vogue Scandinavia says Princess Sofia about how she sees the matter.
– Adults are the worst of all. We must actually act. And the platforms must do their part. Children’s health must be a priority, she says in the interview.

Princess Sofia herself likes to set a good example, and that is why both she and Prince Carl Philip actually post all the content themselves on their Instagram account. The couple therefore does not have an employed social media manager. The prince and princess write all the so-called “captions” themselves and they handpick every single emoji.
– I’m so bad at it. I have to take a course in social media, says Princess Sofia with a laugh to Vogue Scandinavia.
But anyone who wants to find Princess Sofia on other social media will probably have to think again. In the interview, Sofia reveals that she doesn’t use other social media because it doesn’t make her “feel better as a person”
