He won Olympic gold in slalom in 2018, but two years later he put his skis on the shelf.
The farewell was not what André Myhrer had imagined and he fell physically after his career ended.
– I beat myself up pretty hard with the training part, he says to Expressen.
He was Sweden’s leading slalom and giant slalom skier for several years. André Myhrer41, amassed three World Cup medals, eight individual World Cup victories and 27 career podiums, culminating in Olympic gold in Pyeongchang 2018.
André Myhrer resigned during the pandemic
Just two years later, the alpine star decided to retire. He describes the subsequent time as a decay. From one day to the next, he went from being in top shape to stopping training. He didn’t quite get the ending he had always wanted.
– It was a strange ending. I had a hard time coming to terms with that. It didn’t turn out the way I had envisioned. I had made a huge effort in the last year. Maybe mostly on will, because I really wanted to finish on top. I started the season great. Then I ended up in a slump and then corona came and everything was blown away. It was a big effort for the whole of that season that didn’t turn out to be much. It was a strange ending, he tells Expressen.

Now five years have passed since he stopped downhill skiing. The skiing had affected his body negatively for several years. The back had taken a lot of beating. So when he stopped elite sports, there was suddenly not much training. Instead, Myhrer has been in several different TV shows: Mästarnas mästaren (which he won in 2021), Masked Singer Sweden, Doobidoo, Hela kendis-Sverige bakar and Kompani Svan. He also commented on the 2022 Olympics for Radiosporten.
This is how André Myhrer lives today
It took a couple of years, but now André Myhrer’s journey back towards finding form has started to take shape. For example, he is on 200 straight days of running.
– I worked hard with the training part. But now at the end I have actually been running every day. When there is no goal with the training, it is so hard to do it. Now you have something that drives all the time. It has given me an incredible amount, he says.
Together with the wife Madeleine he also passes the time by running a gym at home in Hudiksvall. Together they have three children, which of course also takes a lot of time.
– The plan is for me to have something to do. I have to grow up sometime. When I quit I was so tired of working out, lifting weights and being in that environment. But I have felt that I would like to do something in that area and then this opportunity appeared, says Myhrer.
