On Monday, Romania’s Constitutional Court accepted the surprising result of the first round of the presidential election held at the end of November.
The court ruling means that the second round of the election will take place as planned on December 8. At that time, the far-right candidate will face each other Calin Georgescu and centre-right Elena Lasconi.
Romania’s Supreme Court took over the results of the first round of the presidential election after the pro-Russia Georgescu unexpectedly won the first round of the presidential election.
Georgescu has been accused of stealing the election with the help of Russia, and the Supreme Court last week called for a recount.
On Sunday, December 1, parliamentary elections were held in Romania, in which the country’s ruling party, the Social Democrats, was strong, receiving almost a quarter of the votes.
The country’s far-right parties, on the other hand, received a total of around 30 percent support in the parliamentary elections.
The result of the second round of the presidential election will also have an impact on future government negotiations. In Romania, the president chooses the prime minister from the parliamentary majority, and the prime minister, in turn, forms the country’s government.
