Yellowstone shocks fans with the third major death in season 5 – the character has been there since episode 1

Yellowstone shocks fans with the third major death in season

Warning, strong spoilers for the 5th season of Yellowstone followwhich currently has a new episode every week. While fans had to mourn Kevin Costner’s John Dutton at the start of the series’ return, they were surprised with the death of Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) just last week. The 12th and latest episode of the neo-Western once again takes no prisoners and lets another character die.

This death is particularly sad because it is not just one Yellowstone figure from the very beginningbut also about a death that has nothing to do with the overarching plot of the series.

Yellowstone shocks with another death: Cowboy Colby dies in the new season 5 episode

The 12th episode of Season 5, titled Counting Coup, brought ranch workers and cowboys from the first Yellowstone hour Colby Mayfield (Denim Richards) to the end of his life. In it, Colby rushed to help Carter (Finn Little) in the stable, who felt threatened by a wild horse. While Carter escaped serious injuries, Colby was trampled to death by the animal.

With this, the series says goodbye to a character who has been there as a supporting character since the beginning of the western series. Over the years, Colby was a loyal companion to the Dutton ranch, eventually finding true love on site in Cowgirl Teeter (Jennifer Landon). The couple confessed their love for each other over the phone in the same episode, leading to Colby’s death at this point all the more tragic might.

Nor is his death linked to the overarching plot surrounding the gubernatorial election, the preservation of the Dutton Ranch and the planned airport, which has John Dutton and Sarah Atwood on their conscience.

“They still had plans!”: Yellowstone fans mourn Colby

Colby’s unexpected death came as a blow to Yellowstone fans, and they expressed this in large numbers on X (formerly Twitter). This is what one fan wrote: “Oh my God! Colby isn’t going to die after he and Teeter confessed their love. They had PLANS!”
