Vattenfall has had big goals for utilizing CCS technology, but financial problems stopped the project.
The Swedish energy company Vattenfall is ending its company developing technology for the recovery of carbon dioxide, it says Swedish public radio SVT.
According to Vattenfall, the coal recovery market is undeveloped, and there is no funding to carry out the project.
The company has been developing coal recovery since 2008. At that time, the company considered coal recovery to be the most important way to prevent climate change.
At that time, recovery would have been done especially in Germany, but the project failed because no suitable storage place could be found.
Most recently, Vattenfall’s goal was to recover 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the Jordbro thermal power plant near Stockholm.
The Swedish government still plans to spend 36 billion kroner, or about 3.15 billion euros, on technology development.
