New bank cards will soon arrive in wallets.

It is the most used means of payment on a daily basis. The bank card is, on average, taken out at least once a day by each French person, according to the latest statistics. Data which confirms these payment habits, even if cash is still commonplace. However, few users are really aware of the developments of this small smart rectangle, while 76 million copies are in circulation in France.

While the first changes took place several months ago with the end of embossed numbers on new bank cards, a new modification will appear and is already being implemented by some banks in certain European countries.

Whether on their face or on their back, bank cards display the name of the holder, the 16 identification numbers of the card, the expiration date as well as the three-digit security code. Whether you have a Visa or Mastercard, the model is the same for everyone. However, these two main companies are working on designing new cards.

These would completely change design compared to the current ones since all the numbers would disappear. On a daily basis, for a purchase in any store, this would not change anything since you would always insert your credit card into a terminal or affix it to use contactless.

It is for online purchases that the situation would change. These new cards would be linked to your email address and/or telephone number. Therefore, to buy on the internet, it would be enough to enter one of these two elements in place of all the numbers, then validate the operation from your banking application with a single-use code. This new method is highlighted as additional security to avoid having money stolen if a third party holds the bank card numbers.

In Spain, the BBVA bank has started to introduce this type of card, as has the 100% online British bank Chase. In France, this is not yet in force. According to FranceinfoVisa and Mastercard could deploy this format on a large scale by 2030, while professionals can adapt to this new payment method.
