After the match between Carl Zeiss Jena and Chemie Leipzig in Germany’s fourth tier of the Northeast Regional League, the situation turned into “unrestricted violence” according to the police, when the fans opened the gates separating the fan groups.

The police used tear gas and batons to quell the ruckus. In the end, it was found that 64 fans, ten policemen and five members of the field staff had received injuries.

The home team Carl Zeiss Jena won the match crushingly 5–0 in front of more than 7,200 spectators.
