The most famous messaging application in the world, Whatsapp, has decided to do a major cleaning. It will cease providing its services for nearly 30 telephones. A massive reform that could concern you…
Acquired by Meta (Facebook) in 2014, Whatsapp currently has no less than two billion active users worldwide, or a quarter of the world’s population. And the more followers, the wider the number of different phones the messaging app is present on. A success which causes complex management for WhatsApp, the app having to optimize its display and functionality for each brand, each device and each OS.
Periodically, Meta must discard certain older models and list devices that are no longer capable of meeting its minimum requirements. These being too old and too inefficient, it would be impossible for them to accommodate new updates and benefit from the latest developments. Their systems are not powerful enough to integrate the regular improvements provided by the developers.
“Each year, we take stock of which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users. These devices may also not have the latest security updates or may not have the latest security updates. features required to run WhatsApp”indicates the company.
One of these large households was announced by the American firm for January 1, 2025. And it will be massive. iPhoneSamsung, Huawei… The biggest brands are not immune from the announced breakup. From the first day of 2025, there are nearly thirty models of phone which will be abandoned by the application. There are likely to be many users left on the side of the road next year.
Do you feel concerned by this reform? Below is the list of 49 devices that will no longer be processed by the application by 2025:
- Samsung : Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- iPhone: iPhone 5, iPhone 5c
- Huawei : Ascend P6, Ascend Y300
- HTC : One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601

Note that some of these devices are already no longer capable of running the application. For other users who are still spared, it will simply be impossible for you to go to Whatsapp from the gong of January 1, 2025. The only way to avoid this problem is to get a more recent phone, capable of supporting the additions regularly incorporated on the platform.
Whatsapp Help Center recommends phones supporting Android OS 5.0 (or later) and iPhone iOS 12 (or later), giving you a wide range of choices for your next mobile.
