SD and KD want to review the ban on landmines

Sweden has signed the Ottawa Treaty, which prohibits the use of landmines. But SD and KD are now making common cause and want to investigate whether they should withdraw from the treaty.

– There is no peace that lasts forever. We know that Russia, North Korea and other antagonists wage war in completely different ways that create a disadvantage for us, says SD’s Aron Emilsson.

In neighboring Finland, the issue of landmines is high on the agenda. KD and SD now want to see that the same thing happens here in Sweden.

Mikael Oscarsson (KD) likens it to home insurance.

– It is discouraging, if Russia knows that we have these weapons, we may never have to use them, he tells Ekot.

The parties are also open to scrapping the ban on cluster munitions.
