Harry Seager, 34, bought a Mars that was completely plain – without the well-known chocolate pattern on top.
Now he has received two pounds in compensation from the company – and has gone viral.
– I really have no idea why, says Harry.
Harry lives in Buckinghamshire in the UK and was on his way to a car show in Birmingham with his friends when they stopped at a pub when he bought the Mars bar.
– I thought it must be a production error, he says.
He contacted the company that makes the candy, Mars Wrigley, to find out why.
– I was most curious to find out what it was that made it smooth. I didn’t expect to get a voucher.
The company, on the other hand, was not so generous in telling how it came about that his Mars was defective.
It was lucky then that Harry had shared a photo of the unusual piece of candy in a Facebook group – because the reactions soon poured in.
One person wrote that the candy goes under a machine that blows on the chocolate so that they get the special pattern on top, but that this must have failed.
The post, which was published on November 11, has received over 3,000 comments, over 15,000 reactions and, among other things, has been the subject of an article on the BBC.
– A few hours after I published it, it received hundreds of notifications. It just exploded, he says.

“Going to frame it”
Two weeks later, he received the voucher.
– I have nothing against it, I’m glad I got anything at all. I was just wondering what was wrong.
The £2 voucher is enough to buy two new Mars bars, but Harry has other plans.
– Maybe I’ll frame it together with the news article instead. I never thought it would go viral. It’s crazy.
