Two years ago, the Skåne County Administrative Board did a check on the couple and then took care of 23 cats, 22 in such bad condition that they were later euthanized, something that Ystads Allehanda was the first to report.
The cats were said to have been confined in filthy storage facilities, contaminated with both urine and feces, where ammonia levels greatly exceeded legal levels. Several of the cats reportedly had missing teeth and suffered from infections, according to the lawsuit.
Starving condition
Seven of the cats were in urgent need of care at the County Administrative Board’s inspection. One is said to have been missing all front teeth, another with gingivitis and one with respiratory tract and eye inflammation. Several are also said to have been emaciated and in a state of starvation.
The couple is being held accountable for violations of the Animal Protection Act because, according to the prosecutor, they operated on a larger scale, i.e. had more than ten cats older than twelve months, writes Ystads Allehanda.
The couple denies the crimes.
