Sauber driving probably the last F1 races of his career Valtteri Bottas had a promising ride in the qualifying sessions of the Qatar sprint race. The 35-year-old Finn, driving the worst car in the series, was a fine ninth in the opening section of the sprint.
In the second section, Bottas struggled in the very last moments for a place in the top ten, i.e. the third section. He improved his time, but ended up one and a half tenths behind.
Bottas’ ranking was 13th. The Finn flashed already in the day’s practice by registering the sixth fastest time. Bottas beat his teammate again in qualifying Zhou Guanyunwhich remained in the last section.
For Sauber, a top 10 place in qualifying or the race would be a great achievement, as the team does not have a point from this season.
McLaren drove to the sprint pole position Lando Norris. The other was a Mercedes George Russell and the third Norris teammate Oscar Piastri.
Red Bull secured the world championship last weekend Max Verstappen was only six. Ferrari also overtook Verstappen Carlos Sainz mixed Charles Leclerc. Mercedes Lewis Hamilton was seventh.
The sprint race of the last sprint weekend of the season will be run on Saturday. During the same evening, the actual time trial will also be run, and the race itself will be on Sunday.
