In times where the Swedish economy has been severely strained due to inflation, which has had a tight grip on society, many have had to turn their pennies around to get their private finances together.

So far this year, however, the wind has seemed to turn as the policy rate has been lowered a total of four times, each of the most recent resulting in a double reduction on 7 November. With that, we look to be moving towards brighter times in 2025.

More people buy and sell used

Due to the current economic situation, more and more people have also turned to the second-hand market in the hope of making the occasional good deal. News24 has previously reported on the amount of auctions on the auction site Tradera that has increased in recent years.

– The current economy, combined with a greater awareness of the downsides of new consumption, means that more people choose used mobile phones instead of buying new ones. It is a new, modern lifestyle that more and more people are adopting, says Tradera’s communications manager, Sofia Hagelinpreviously told Nyheter24.

This has contributed to everything from mobile phones, video games and consoles to furnishings and coffee mugs being sold for substantial sums.

Something that has become really popular on the site is games and game consoles. Recently, a seller put a classic game, including game console, up for auction. After the bidding ended, the person had earned SEK 57,500. The game in question is “The Legend of Zelda” and the game console Super Nintendo.

– Just over 100,000 computer and video games changed hands during the last quarter, that’s 1,200 games a day. In computer and video games, PS4 sells the most, followed by Nintendo Switch, XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii and NES Nintendo 8-bit. The Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch and Skylanders categories are growing the most, Hagelin has said.

The sofa was sold for SEK 55,500

In a new interview with Nyheter24, Hagelin now explains that a very well-known brand has also become more and more popular recently, where goods can be sold for tens of thousands of kroner after the auction has ended. And should you be sitting with an ornament or piece of furniture from Svenskt Tenn in particular, then it might be time to auction it off – if you’re looking to earn a penny.

– Over the past year, interest in Swedish Pewter has been especially great at Tradera. The brand has a higher demand than there is supply, which means that there is usually lively bidding on the items posted.

A sofa was auctioned on Tradera under the name “Josef Frank sofa Swedish pewter – 3-seater model 968 green”. After the bidding, the seller was able to collect a breathtaking SEK 55,500.
