Many Germans dream of leaving their everyday lives behind and emigrating to a tropical paradise. This also applies to Levke, who dared to make a new start with Goodbye Germany – The Emigrants on the island of Zanzibar off the east coast of Africa. But the hope of beach life turned into a nightmare. Why Levke’s husband is responsible for the horroryou can find out here.
Levke emigrated to Zanzibar: a paradise with dark sides
It is not the first time that Levke Kersting (40) has appeared on the VOX documentary soap Goodbye Germany: The emigrant was followed by the cameras when she emigrated to Zanzibar two years ago. Levke turned her back on her hometown of Hanover and took the giant step: she flew to Zanzibar, bought a property in the middle of nowhere and had a tiny house built that would become her home.
But then love came into play: Levke fell in love with the local Amosi from the Sukuma tribe, who was 10 years younger than him. The emigrant was taken by the well-trained man; She quickly dreamed of a future together. After a few months the dream wedding followed. Then reality caught up with her again…
“Just hit it”: Goodbye Germany-Levke experienced pure horror in her marriage
Levke admits to VOX that the time with Amosi was unfortunately not harmonious. The young man is said to have often been drunk and behaved erratically while intoxicated. He also regularly ran away from home for days or weeks. Levke was alone in a foreign country for months. He repeatedly accrued debts to her that he never paid back.
But it gets even worse. Levke repeatedly had to struggle with infectious diseases during the marriage:
This guy gives me one every few weeks Cystitis, fungal infection and the chlamydia attached
When the emigrant found messages from strange women on Amosi’s cell phone, the matter was clear to her: Her husband was unfaithful. She angrily confronted him with the truth. When she threw the cell phone on Amosi’s bed during the argument, He’s supposed to be completely freaked out. What happened next was shocking. Levke admits to Vox:
He stood up and just hit. And then I hit my head uncontrollably on the concrete floor. […] He punched me right in the face. So hard that I fell straight to the ground.
Levke wanted to flee the situation, but Amosi wouldn’t let her go. She tearfully explains how much he intimidated her:
And then he took the Masai stick, grabbed me by the collar and laughed at me and asked if I needed more.
Levke felt extreme fear in the situation, but then she defended herself. The shocking situation had awakened unexpected strengths in her. Like a fury, she clung to Amosi and screamed at him whether she should hit him. “I completely freaked out”, she admits. Luckily Amosi then let go of her and disappeared for 7 weeks.
“I want a divorce as quickly as possible”: Levke finally wants to draw a line in the sand
After this bad argument, the relationship wasn’t over yetas Levke admits. The emigrant describes how she couldn’t get away from her violent husband for a long time: “I kept getting weak and taking him back.”
Two months after the wedding, however, the separation finally occurred. Levke simply couldn’t stand this ups and downs anymore. Now Levke wants to officially dissolve the marriage: “I want a divorce as quickly as possible!” But that’s not so easy in their situation: in the Goodbye Germany interview, Amosi says that only the elders of his tribe can initiate a divorce.
Amosi can’t pay off his debts: So Levke wants to be happy without her ex
Even though Levke and Amosi are still married, the emigrant is looking forward to being single. She regrets that she completely put aside herself during the relationship to please her ex. But this is finally the end: “It’s really good for me to be single and to take care of myself again.”
Here you can see how she feels pure joy of life during dance training:
The Goodybe Germany cameras have a final meeting months later. But Levke is not interested in a romantic reunion. Instead, she wants to get a confession out of her ex. If he admits on camera that he owes her money, she could take legal action against him. Unfortunately, nothing comes of it: Amosi talks his way out of it and ultimately runs away. Before that, however, he had tried to win Levke back again.
Reconciliation is out of the question for Levke: “I don’t feel anything for him. Absolutely nothing.” The emigrant still wants to stay in Zanzibar. A return to Germany is impossible.
