The wolf had been staying near a reindeer herd from Vilhelmina norra Sami village and attacked several reindeer. Then the County Administrative Board made the decision on protective hunting.
– The wolf had clashed with the reindeer the week before. Then it took a deer which it ate. Next week, more reindeer will also arrive in the area, so then we made the decision to euthanize it, says Björn Jonsson, head of the nature conservation unit at the county administrative board.
The County Administrative Board does not yet know where the wolf had come from. Earlier in the autumn, another wolf was observed in the vicinity of Umeå.
