With the PS4 era, Sony has built up many AAA brands that dominate its portfolio. This includes Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games. A gigantic Chinese company seems to like that too, because a new game looks suspiciously similar to the Sony brand.
What is it about? Chinese developer Polaris announced the new game Light of Motiram. Polaris belongs to the mega-corporation Tencent, which has a lot of influence in the games industry. Tencent owns companies like Riot Games and shares in Epic Games, Ubisoft and FromSoftware, where Sony is probably in purchase negotiations.
China is now one of the largest developers in the video game sector, but Light of Motiram is reminiscent of the PS4 game Horizon Zero Dawn at first glance. You can find a trailer for it here:
Absolutely no shame
What is Light of Motiram? The game is scheduled to appear on Steam and Epic, but does not yet have a release date. Light of Motiram is an open-world survival game with crafting elements. What’s special about the setting are the mechanical creatures that look suspiciously like Horizon Zero Dawn.
Instead of a cinematic story, Light of Motiram is probably more oriented towards games like Palworld. You collect resources, fish and build your bases. Various mecha monsters can be tamed and used for combat and production. Like Palworld, Light of Motiram will also offer online co-op.
Under Gematsu’s x post, most users make fun of the similarities. @raider99k (via x.com) even writes that the game’s cover and colors look exactly like Horizon Zero Dawn. You can see the cover here:
The user @_KeanuReaves (via x.com) writes: Absolutely no shame. I love the fact that an image like this immediately evokes the iconic feel of Horizon and doesn’t feel like its own thing at all.
So far, Sony or Guerrilla Games have not publicly commented on the game.
It is currently not possible to say whether there will be problems with Sony. Palworld also had to contend with allegations that even led to a legal dispute with Nintendo. But that doesn’t seem to harm Palworld’s success: a lawsuit from Nintendo can’t slow down Palworld’s success, it even overtakes Dragon Ball
