Hüseyin Hakan, who lives in the Salihli district of Manisa and is an avid Galatasaray supporter, is waiting for a lung transplant. According to the Ministry of Health’s October 2024 data; In our country, 25 thousand 246 patients are waiting for kidney transplantation, 2 thousand 650 patients are waiting for liver transplantation and 1477 patients are waiting for heart transplantation. When patients waiting for transplantation of other organs such as lungs and small intestines are added, it is seen that a total of 33 thousand 498 patients have hope for organ donation.
However, the Ministry of Health’s data for the last 12 years shows that only 23 percent of more than 23 thousand people with brain death were donated organs. Additionally, statistics show that organ donations in our country have fallen by half since 2018. It is stated that in our country, which has a population of 85 million, only about 300 organ donations are made every year.
