A 35-year-old man has been hanged by the authorities in Singapore. It is the fourth execution that has taken place in the country within the space of three weeks.
The man was sentenced to death in 2013 for drug smuggling. He held dual citizenship of Singapore and Iran, and the Iranian government appealed as recently as Thursday for the penalty to be re-examined. The execution is said to have taken place early on Friday.
The small city-state has very strict drug laws, where possession of more than 15 grams of heroin can lead to the death penalty.
On November 15, two men, aged 39 and 53, were hanged, and a week later a 55-year-old man was hanged. The three had also been convicted of drug offences.
