Every Monday, it’s the same story: anxiety invades you in the face of the mountain of tasks that awaits you. However, this stress can disappear thanks to a simple and effective method: clock-blocking.
Between last minute emergencies, long meetings and emails from your N+1, do you no longer see your days passing by? A simple tip to implement allows you to (re)save time in the office. Explanations.
Clock-blocking, an optimization technique to test
Popularized in the United Kingdom, clock-blocking (which could be translated as “blocking time in your schedule”) is a work technique which makes it possible to limit interruptions of all kinds (calls, emails, meetings, various requests, etc.). .) affecting your concentration.
In other words, it’s a way to regain control of your schedule, by organizing your day according to your priorities. A survey carried out by Owl Lab reveals that 63% of British workers use clock blocking to concentrate.
A method that is attracting more and more fans, but which requires a little discipline. Elyssa Desai, coach, recommends establishing a specific work routine.
“Put clock-blocking into practice by scheduling recurring blocks of time for regular responsibilities, then review your priorities at the start of each week or day and assign blocks of time to specific tasks.”she confides to the media Stylist.
This way of working will allow you to both optimize your time, but also to work better on tasks that require your full attention.
“This has had a huge impact on my mental health, as I don’t waste time worrying about something not getting done – there is already an allocated time so I feel more in control of my week“, confirms Rachel Grace Elliott, career change specialist.
To adopt clock-blocking, nothing very complicated. Start by analyzing your work and your needs. Which tasks are both urgent and important? Which missions require your full attention? How much time do you want to leave? Finally, what tasks can you put aside or leave until later? Once this diagnosis has been made, adopt the following reflexes.
- Define your blocks of time (dedicated to your personal work), taking into account the moments when you are most productive.
- Reserve these work slots in advance, at the start of the week (or earlier if necessary).
- Warn your colleagues about these “slots” where you will not be available. Conversely, specify those where you may be contacted.
- During your blocks of time, turn off your cell phone so as not to be disturbed.
- Don’t forget to set aside time for your breaks and leisure activities.
Thanks to this working method, you will gain in productivity but also in peace of mind!
