William Poromaa did not have a successful season last year.
Now he has changed a lot in order to succeed better this year – among other things, he has changed his diet a bit.
– I have taken the help of a dietician, mental coach and physiotherapist who have been part of the routine in the training routine more than it was before, he says to Sportbibeln.
After the WC gold in 50 km freestyle in Planica 2023, many thought that William Poromaa23, had finally made his international breakthrough. But in the following season, nothing went further for the distance skier. He already crashed during the Sweden premiere last year and injured his back. In addition, he was affected by covid-19 during the season.
William Poromaa is looking for revenge
Now Poromaa is back after a strong summer of training and there is a desire for revenge that shines in his eyes when Sportbibeln talks to him during the ski national team’s media launch in Solna.
– It has gone very well, I must say. I have been able to train without problems all spring and all summer and autumn. So it’s going well. I think I have managed the training in a good way. We have changed a bit. Before, when I did train, I trained very hard and for slightly longer sessions. But then when I rested, I rested a lot and the other side. So we’ve tried to even it out a bit and rest less – but not have as long training days. Spread it out a little more, he says.

He was forced to sit out the domestic premiere weekend in Bruksvallarna due to a cold, but he is back in the squad that takes on the World Cup premiere in Ruka, Finland. Hopefully his new setup can get him some good results like this in the early season.

Poromaa has changed his eating habits
William Poromaa is initially a bit reticent about what he actually did and received help with. But in the end he tells a little more in detail how he has gained more knowledge on several different levels thanks to the people he now has around him.
– It is good with physio, to be able to come there and look through the body twice a month. Also be with Stig Wiklund then that I worked mentally with and Stig Mattsson who is a dietitian at SOK – he has helped me a lot with what to put in the body and what not. So there is a lot there, he says.

It is not so much that Poromaa made any particular mistakes in the past, but more that he has gained an even better understanding of what his body needs to function and perform optimally.
– The diet, there are always things you can do better. Absolutely that there are certain things that you have not been aware of. I’ve done a little diet recording just to check, it’s looked good too… just knowing what you’re doing well and what you can do better is perhaps the most important part of that puzzle, he says.
Can you say something specific that you do differently now when it comes to diet?
– I eat broccoli sprouts.
