punch operation violence tension rises a notch

10:35 – A second operation in Ile-de-France

According to franceinfo, a second operation takes place in front of the National Health Security Agency (Anses), in Maisons-Alfort in Val-de-Marne. “Stop overtranspositions! Stop obstructions!” is written on the farmers’ banners.

10:05 – A punchy action this morning in Paris

This Thursday, around a hundred demonstrators erected a concrete block wall in front of the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment in the 7th arrondissement of the capital. A protester interviewed by AFP spoke of “restrictions on the use of certain products without effective alternative solutions, which leads to production losses”, in particular with the ban on certain insecticides. “Inrae is of no use, fed up with this institution,” said Cyrille Milard, vice-president of the FDSEA of Seine-et-Marne, as reported by franceinfo. They feel that the institution is taking away their means of working.

10:00 – Violence during mobilizations denounced

Three environmental protection associations have denounced acts of violence. They were targeted by farmers over the last 24 hours, assured France Nature Environnement (FNE). “This violence is intolerable in a rule of law,” the association declared in a press release. They are perpetuated by “individuals and organizations who believe they are above the law and commit these acts under the union flag, under the watch of the police forces who do not intervene”, adds the press release. Two complaints have already been filed. In Gap, on Wednesday, demonstrators walled up the FNE 05 premises, while employees and volunteers were inside, explained FNE president Antoine Gatet. In Coutances, activists from the Rural Coordination dumped tires and manure in front of the premises of the Manche Nature association. Then in Châteauroux, FNSEA demonstrators dumped straw in front of the premises of the Indre Nature association. The employees then took refuge upstairs but farmers climbed into the tractor baskets to drum against the shutters and try to gain entry. Following these facts, the Minister of Agriculture assured AFP that she “condemns with the greatest firmness any attacks on people and property” and considers that these attacks harm “the legitimate demands of farmers”.

09:48 – Where are the mobilizations taking place this Thursday?

The protest continues after the call from the FNSEA and Young Farmers for mobilizations, in particular to denounce the administrative burden to which the profession is subject. Several demonstrations are planned for November 28.
