Repeal of the pension reform, act… we no longer know how many. A new text proposing to return to retirement at 62 and to put an end to the reform adopted last year is being studied this Thursday, November 28, 2024 in the National Assembly. The bill for the return to force of the old rules is supported by La France insoumise, one month after a similar proposal from the National Rally.
In the hemicycle, the arithmetic would dictate that the reform be repealed: more than 300 deputies are in favor, or more than half of the Assembly. Apparently, there is therefore no doubt that the text will be adopted. Except it shouldn’t happen that easily. Indeed, this text is proposed within the framework of the parliamentary niche of LFI. It is a day – just one – during which a political group decides the agenda.
The group led by Mathilde Panot therefore decided to put the return to 62 to a vote. However, if a vote is not organized before midnight tonight, everything falls apart. The parliamentary niche only lasts one day, until midnight and, once the hour arrives, everything stops, no matter where the debates are. Thus, to delay the vote as much as possible, the Macronist and LR deputies tabled nearly 1000 amendments. Enough to drag out the debates for a long time with, ultimately, the hope of a renunciation of the left or of discussions which would not have concluded before the bell.
Furthermore, it should be noted that if the proposed law on the return of retirement at 62 is adopted, the text should then be adopted by the Senate. Mission impossible since in the Upper House, it is the government coalition which is in the majority and therefore opposed to repeal. This therefore has no chance of succeeding, while the majority of deputies, but also of the French, are for a return to 62 years.
