The same doctor performed the operations • The victim: “Empty, tearful and disappointed”
The Inspectorate for Care and Care, Ivo, believes that the doctor carried out the operations on incorrect or very dubious grounds.
A woman who had her healthy uterus removed wanted to have more children and has suffered from PTSD and depression since the operation.
Tom, teary-eyed, disappointed in the care. He works with people, it’s not machines he makes mistakes with, she tells P4.
Three of the women are said to have sought care for prolapse, something that may require surgery to remove the uterus but does not have to. In all three cases, however, the doctor chose to remove the uterus without correcting the prolapse.
Ivo does not question the doctor’s credentials
The doctor was banned in 2023 from performing similar operations himself and has now resigned at his own request.
However, Ivo has made the assessment that there is no reason to question the senior doctor’s credentials.
The hospital does not rule out that more people may have been affected.
Earlier this fall, a similar case was revealed where 33 women had their uterus removed unnecessarily at the University Hospital in Uppsala during 2023 and 2024. The revelation has received a lot of attention and has, among other things, led to the government adding a national survey of the assessment of pre-stages to uterine cancer.
Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect description of Ivo’s assessment.
