Since confinement, a new type of accommodation has enjoyed dazzling success. Specially designed for couples, these naughty rentals promise voluptuous and crazy nights!

“The secret valley”, “Parenthese love”, “Atelier de rêve”, “La villa des charmes” or even “Des Chaînes les passions”… Behind these evocative names hide the latest fashionable accommodation, entirely dedicated to couples to looking for a slightly spicy night: love rooms. Luxurious, romantic or downright naughty, these Airbnb-style short-term rentals promise an intimate break and allow you to take time for yourself, while our daily lives are more hectic than ever.

This new type of rental is directly inspired by the famous Japanese love hotels, an emblematic concept of the Land of the Rising Sun. These establishments offer lovers the opportunity to reserve a glamorous room for part of the day or night. Because, very often, several generations live under the same roof, which seriously complicates sentimental and carnal relationships. In short, a local curiosity to absolutely try during your trip!

In France, the first love rooms appeared in 2011, but it was only in 2020 and 2021 that they really gained popularity. In the space of a few years, these rooms of love literally swarmed across the territory. In 2023 alone, 200 openings in France have been counted. Today, there are more than a thousand of them on French territory. Specialized platforms have emerged, such as Love’nSpa, Loveroomers, Introuvable, Nuit d’Amour – don’t hesitate to take a look! Afterwards, it is also possible to find them on classic rental sites, such as Airbnb.

These accommodations come in three categories: romantic, suggestive or BDSM oriented. Thus, it is entirely possible to enjoy a cocooning atmosphere, with a private jacuzzi, a king size bed, a beautiful Italian shower… or to turn to much more torrid rentals, with libidinous paintings, a red carpet, a pole dance bar, a tantra sofa, mirrors galore, a swing, a cage and a whole bunch of accessories. In short, there is something for all tastes and desires!

The concept of the love room is to offer customers something other than what they would find in a classic hotel room, which justifies the slightly higher price – it costs on average between 100 and 400 euros per night. It also allows, for some, to take advantage of equipment that they do not have at home – it is better to avoid exposing your spanking bench in the middle of the living room.

If the love room is a popular concept, it remains to be seen how long the trend will last. Because the market is already starting to be saturated in certain regions. Growing competition is pushing investors to turn to increasingly high-end or atypical concepts to stand out, such as tropical spaces or including “secret rooms”. Not to mention that another factor could put a brake on this market: the narrowing of the tax loophole on furnished tourist rentals. This measure, intended to combat the housing shortage, could well deter new investors…
