A water buffalo on the run was hit during the afternoon on Gotland and was so badly injured that it had to be euthanized, reports P4 Gotland.

The accident occurred on county road 140 in Silte after two steers (castrated bull calves) were driven out of their pen by an angry water buffalo bull.

The car driver, who collided with one of the water buffaloes with great force, escaped unhurt, but the car suffered severe sheet metal damage.

According to the owner of the water buffaloes, Karin Yxfeldt, the hit steer weighed around 500 kilos and it was dark at the time of the accident.

– Water buffalo are black so they were completely impossible to see, she tells P4 Gotland.
