27-year-old is a 2-time world champion in LoL and the kryptonite for T1, but is actually a chill guy who loves Genshin Impact

27-year-old Cho “BeryL” geon-hee is one of the best League of Legends support players in the world and is considered a nightmare opponent for South Korean team T1, whom he eliminated twice at LoL Worlds. BeryL became world champion in 2020 and 2022, making him one of a handful of players who have achieved this. But Beryl’s true passion belongs to the Waifus in Genshin Impact.

Where do you know BeryL from?? The “support role” in LoL is the most inconspicuous in the game. Mid laners are usually the stars, followed by junglers. Then come ADCs and toplaners and at the bottom of the food chains are supports.

But BeryL is an exceptionally strong supporter: in 2020 he was in the core of the then world-class trio from Damwon Gaming together with Showmaker and Canyon and won the world champion title outstandingly.

In 2022 he was on the underdog team DRX, which snatched the secure 4th world championship title from Faker. He is the only player in LoL to become world champion with 2 different teams, neither of which was T1.

Faker and T1 simply can’t win against BeryL:

BeryL has a heart and a lot of money for waifus

This is his true passion: As you know, BeryL is a huge fan of anime MMOs like Genshin Impact or similar games that rely heavily on waifus. BeryL is taken with the anime ladies:

So he spent $7,000 from his 2020 World Cup victory on the game Genshin Impact.

He demanded that Riot make his Worlds skin for Leona 2020 after his “Waifu” Sasaki from Princess Connect Re:Dive.

For 2022, he wanted Riot to use his favorite character from Honkai Impact as a model for his heroine Ashe.

To win Worlds 2022, he wanted an Ashe skin in the style of Elysia from Honkai Impact

BeryL waited with a new contract because he was still at a Genshin Impact event

Here’s his latest story: BeryL’s contract with KT Rolster had now expired and he was looking for a new team. Most teams announced their signings as of November 13th. Then Keria signed with T1 – BeryL is considered his nightmare opponent, against whom even Keria simply cannot win.

But BeryL took a surprising amount of time with his new signing.

It was only announced on November 19th that he was moving again to Damwon Gaming and Showmaker, who have obviously missed him sorely in recent years.

As it later emerged, DK had to wait a little longer to sign him because BeryL wanted to take part in a Genshin Impact promo event, which was only possible as long as he was not yet signed to a LoL professional team.

BeryL is “The Genshin Bro”

This is how it is discussed: People are having a lot of fun with the story on Reddit. It is said that other professionals also just call him “the Genshin Bro”. Before Genshin, he was passionate about Princess Connect! Re: Played Dive.

In addition to his passion for Genshin Impact, BeryL is best known as “The Kryptonite” for T1, having eliminated T1 at Worlds in 2021 and 2022.

By the way, the European equivalent for BeryL and Genshin Impact is the Dane Wunder: He was considered the leading top laner in Europe for years, but his heart actually beat for World of Warcraft, which even cost his team some money: LoL imposes $1000 – Penalty against G2 Esports because a pro played WoW Classic
