The man “made entry” into a home in the 300 block of Kathleen Avenue Monday around 3 am while a woman was sleeping, police said.
“She woke to a naked male standing beside her bed holding a knife. A struggle ensued where the (woman) caused the male to drop the knife and flee the residence. The (woman) was sexually assaulted, but did not require medical attention,” police said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
Police are looking for a Caucasian man in his 20s with a bald head and a distinctive tattoo on the right side of his body, they said. Officers are also canvassing the area for any evidence, potential witnesses or video surveillance.
“Residents can expect increased police patrol presence in this neighborhood. This is an active Investigation and additional information will be provided when available,” police said.
Anyone in the area of East and Wellington streets, Kathleen and Walnut avenues, and Cherry Drive with dash cam or video surveillance is asked to call Sarnia police Det. Reg Musclow at 519-344-8861 extension 6198.
No police cruisers or officers were visible on those roads by 3 pm Tuesday, but police said the investigation is continuing. They also endorsed nearby residents about locking up.
“Residents are asked to ensure their residences are secure and any suspicious activity is reported to police,” police said.
