In recent years, Stavås Skistad has created a great rivalry against the Swedish competitors and above all the sprint stars Jonna Sundling and Lynn Svahn. The trio have really battled each other for the top spots in the World Cup sprints, sending each other gleeful rings on the side of the tracks.
– It is extremely fun to be able to compete against such good opponents who maintain such a high level. And Sundling, Skistad and Svahn have taken the sprint to a higher level than we have ever seen. Being a part of that and driving the sprint forward is really exciting. So we love that there are good competitors. Now it’s Sweden and there’s nothing more fun than beating good competitors, says the Norwegian’s personal trainer Created by Sofienlund in an interview with Sportbladet.
Stavås Skistad’s feelings
Stavås Skistad is very secretive as a person and it’s not often you get to hear what she really thinks. But now the coach gives his view on the great rivalry between the Norwegian and Sundling as well as Svahn.
– I think that everyone has rivals. The essence of sport is competition and rivalry, I think that is very important to keep the nerve in sport. Norway and Sweden are a derby in cross-country skiing – and that is important. We’re not supposed to be a sewing club that goes around Europe and is friends. You want to beat each other, you want to win over each other, says Sofienlund in the interview, but admits that it is not a hateful atmosphere.
– Haha, we don’t have a dartboard (with the Swedes’ faces). But there is no doubt that the Swedes are good and that motivates both Kristine and me very much in our daily training.

Kristine Stavå’s Skistad really matched Jonna Sundling and Linn Svahn this past winter and had their best World Cup season with five individual victories. Lage Sofienlund opens up about who the Norwegian really is.
– She is very private and does not want to share much of her life. It creates a kind of mystique around the type of person she is, so I understand that she can be perceived as a bit mysterious. But that’s her personality. That is who she is and who she has chosen to be in this circus. I have great respect for that, says the Norwegian ski coach to the evening newspaper and then continues:
– I think that as an elite athlete with a short career, she has every right to do what she feels like. She should not have to feel that she has to be something she is not in order to have a place in sports. She must be allowed to be who she wants to be.
