    With the return of the cold also comes that of the trio “gloves, scarf and hat” which we like to be very cozy. But despite their sometimes daily wear, it does not always occur to us to put them in the washing machine regularly. This is wrong, because they quickly become bacteria carriers!

    With the cold, the temptation to surround yourself with warmth returns. For this, soft scarves, thick hats and gloves allow us to enjoy the outdoors with a little more gentleness. But like any other item in contact with the body and face, they require a good wash, several times during the season.

    Sweat and bacteria warm in our woolens

    In reality, our items worn outdoors are not that clean after a few uses. Sebum, sweat and even pollution can gradually lodge there, which is not good news for our face, in direct contact.

    • Thus, the caps absorb the sweat from our forehead and scalp;
    • The scarf is loaded with impurities, which it can transmit directly to the respiratory tract via the mouth and nose;
    • Gloves also pick up many germs by touching surfaces.

    As a result, these three items can cause irritation and imperfections on the skin, without you realizing it.

    How often should you clean your items?

    Very often, we hesitate to wash our scarves and hats. Either we don’t think about it, or we fear damaging these sometimes fragile pieces, made of wool or cashmere. The right method?

    • For items in a delicate material: wash by hand, or in the machine at 30 degrees only, on a wool program, with why not a little mild shampoo to soften the fibers. Fabric softener should be avoided, however;
    • For other materials (cotton, viscose, etc.)a classic 30 degree program;
    • Once washed, spin everything gently and leave to dry flat to find an item like new.

    And for the frequency, once every week or so if you wear them every day.

    Finally, a last method consists of having several sets, to alternate according to your look, to space out the washes. A gift idea perhaps?
