In the United States, President-elect Donald Trump promised during his campaign the largest expulsion operation of illegal migrants ever seen in the country – which would number at least 13 million. But some Democratic cities and states described as “sanctuaries” have promised to stand in the way of Donald Trump, who is already considering depriving them of federal resources.

In Los Angeles last week, the municipal council adopted a decree prohibiting the city from using its resources – the police, among others – to enforce any immigration law. This was already not the case for the city, but the objective was to send a message, the same as that of several Democratic governors: Los Angeles will not cooperate.
Cut federal aid to “sanctuary” cities
Tom Homan, the “Border Tsar” appointed by Donald Trump at the head of the agency responsible for border control and immigration (ICE) and which will be in charge of the expulsion of illegal migrants, reacted. Its position is clear, the Trump administration will cut federal aid received by “sanctuary” cities, something the president-elect had already tried to do during his first term.
“ We are not in the least intimidated by these threats which aim to undermine our values », Retorted the mayor of Chicago. Same story with other cities like Boston or Denver, whose mayor said he was ready to go to prison to counter the promises of expulsion of Donald Trump.
More cooperation
Legal action is, in any case, likely. But not sure that New York will follow suit. After Republican states began busing migrants there, Mayor Eric Adams attacked some of his city’s policies, calling for greater cooperation between local police and federal immigration authorities.
