A new 10 euro coin created: the historic note soon to be replaced?

A new 10 euro coin created the historic note soon

A new coin has been put into circulation. Unpublished, it nevertheless has as much value as the ticket… Or even more.

Since the changeover to the euro, the distribution of currency between coins and notes is always the same: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 centimes, 1 and 2 euros for coins; 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 euros for tickets. In 22 years, this formula has not changed one iota. However, in 2024, a new coin will appear: it will be a 10 euro coin. It will not be a first, but the creation is rare enough to be highlighted.

As with the note, using this coin in a store will allow you to pay for a purchase with a maximum value of 10 euros. From there to replacing the little piece of pink paper? Not so fast! Not all French people will be able to have it in their wallet.

Contrary to the rule that usually prevails – the more valuable the coins, the bigger they are – this 10 euro coin is… the smallest compared to the others, even that of 1 cent. On the other hand, it is gold like those of 10, 20 and 50 centimes.

Its design represents, on one side, the exterior of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral with the inscription “Rebuilding Notre Dame”. On the other, the interior of the building, as well as various craft trades, are highlighted. This exceptional coin was struck by the Paris Mint to celebrate the reopening of the cathedral, five years after the fire which devastated it.

If this coin can be used to make purchases – only in France and nowhere else – as confirmed by the Bank of France, few French people will be able to have it in their possession. Only 1163 copies were struck. Above all, it is more of a piece aimed at collectors. It is therefore not a question of replacing the historic ticket.

Given its low mintage and the exceptional nature of the creation, the piece sells for €375 each. However, in store, it only costs 10 euros. It is therefore better to keep it carefully in the hope of seeing its value increase in the years to come.
