Crown Princess Victoria’s art collection worth millions

Crown Princess Victorias art collection worth millions

The Crown Princess Victoria has a solid interest in art and culture. In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet, Victoria talked about her passion and commitment, which she also shares with her husband, the prince Daniel.

In the interview with The Swedish Daily revealed Victoria that the couple spontaneously go to art exhibitions, and sometimes even open their wallets – seriously.

Works hang in the collection that hangs in Haga Castle’s representative part Karin Mamma Andersson and Paul Fägerskiöldand on the table coffetable books about the hyped artist Gunnel Wåhlstrand who is one of Sweden’s most expensive living artists.

The colorful painting by Paul Fägerskiöld, a monochrome splash of orange paint, was actually Prince Daniel’s idea.

– Daniel had been to the gallery and seen Paul’s paintings and was delighted, so he took a picture and sent it to me. When I saw it on the mobile phone, it was the size of a postage stamp and I first wondered: what is this? But we were both very pleased and it feels good to have him here, a young Swedish artist, Victoria tells Svenska Dagbladet.

Crown Princess Victoria has art by Karin Mamma Andersson and Paul Fägerskiöld

Paul Fägerskiöld, who was born in 1982, has quickly become one of Sweden’s most recognized artists, and after having studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna, he now lives and works in New York. At auction, his works are sold for several hundred thousand kroner, sometimes over half a million kroner.

Karin Mamma Andersson is perhaps Sweden’s most famous artist, and she is represented at MoMa in New York and MoCa in Los Angeles, among others. In 2023, she broke an auction record when one of her paintings from 2005 fetched SEK 9.6 million, something that was reported by Barneby’s.

In an interview with TT, she recently talked about the name Mamma – why is she called that anyway?

– That’s my stage name. I took it 30 years ago for fun. It stuck because it was so good and has prevented me from being mixed up with all the other Karin Andersson, she said then.

A generously sized oil painting by Karin Mamma Andersson hangs at Haga Castle. The motif is a pair of swans.

– Both Daniel and I were delighted because it reminds us of Hagaparken and our walks with the children, Victoria explained to Svenska Dagbladet.

The painting, which was exhibited at Galleri Magnus Karlsson in 2016, was painted the same year, in oil and acrylic. The 122 centimeter high and 149 centimeter wide painting is called Svandamm. In the interview with Svenska Dagbladet, Victoria is asked if she and Daniel buy a lot of contemporary art, Victoria answered with a profanity:

– No, it’s so damn expensive!, she told the newspaper.

But the question is whether the works of Karin Mamma Andersson and Paul Fägerskiöld do not disprove Victoria’s words – at least a little…
