Last hat-trick in the Champions League. But against Arsenal, there were no goals for Viktor Gyökeres. Instead, he was mocked by the opponent Gabriel Magalhães who made the Swede’s goal gesture in the relegation of Sporting Lisbon.
– Nice that he likes my goal gesture. He may well twist it if he doesn’t come up with one of his own, says Gyökeres to Viaplay.
The Swedish attacking star Viktor Gyökerescalled by many Europe’s hottest right now, was of course not overjoyed after the 1-5 loss.
– We weren’t good enough today, we didn’t play good enough football when we had the ball. It was a tough day, he says.
Viktor Gyökeres remained speechless
In the stands at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon sat 20-30 representatives from major European clubs, sent to scout the Swedish attacking star who achieved success this autumn with 24 goals for his Portuguese team. Including three against Manchester City in the last Champions League match (4–1).
CHRONICLE: Viktor Gyökeres can be bigger than both Henrik Larsson and Zlatan
In addition, he scored four against Azerbaijan in the Nations League last week. But against Arsenal, Gyökeres did not have it as easy as against Manchester City.
– We didn’t play as well and didn’t have as good an attack and then it’s difficult to do anything when you get the ball mostly in midfield, says the Swede.
– We started like against City and conceded an early goal. It’s not always that easy to turn a match around.
Gyökere’s target gesture was copied
The visitors went into a three-goal lead at half-time. After that Gabriel Magalhães headed in 3-0 in extra time in the first half, he twisted the Swede’s goal gesture and put his clasped hands in front of his face.
– Nice that he likes my goal gesture. He may well twist it if he doesn’t come up with one of his own, says the Swede in Viaplay.

Sporting reduced at the start of the second half. But a penalty gave Arsenal 4–1, which then became 5–1. Gyökeres did what he could offensively, but was usually far too alone. At the end of the match, he made a strong run on the left wing and got a shot at goal – which hit the crossbar. Soon after, he shot high over. The match was the first in the Champions League with the new coach João Pereiraa. Reuben Amorim has left for Manchester United.
Sad for Viktor Gyökeres to go goalless from the Champions League meeting with Arsenal. He is in such sick goalscoring form right now, so it would have been great to score even against a European powerhouse.
